Maximizing FDI to Support Global Internationalization

Maximizing Export Readiness and FDI: Empowering Sri Lankan ICT Companies through UN ESCAP Training and Research

I am thrilled to share an exciting update from Colombo this week, where I was delighted to lead a private sector development program on behalf of United Nations ESCAP for 11 shortlisted ICT Companies on FDI and Internationalization along with my ESCAP colleague Tom Becker. This is our second private sector development program in Sri Lanka and was an incredible week training some of Sri Lanka’s leading ICT companies to support their capacity in enhancing their export readiness, market access, and investment attraction for successful internationalization.

🌐 In-Person Training Sessions - With 11 outstanding ICT companies in intensive, hands-on training sessions, we supported the companies by developing data-driven market access programs, strategies for targeting international foreign direct investment and partners, and focused value propositions. These sessions are part of a comprehensive program designed to equip companies with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive on the global stage. The energy and enthusiasm of the participants was inspiring and underlined the amazing quality of the talent in Sri Lanka!

📡 Ongoing Support and Virtual Follow-Ups - Following the in-person training, we will continue to support these companies with virtual follow-up sessions. This phased approach ensures they have ongoing guidance and resources as they move from learning to implementation, navigating the complex journey of internationalization.

🔍 Groundbreaking Research for the United Nations - Simultaneously, we kicked off our first-hand research for the upcoming United Nations digital investment landscape study. This study aims to provide invaluable insights into the current state and future potential of foreign direct investment to support internationalization. Our stakeholder consultations have been particularly enlightening, with significant input from key players such as the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG).

🤝 Collaborative Efforts for a Digital Future - This initiative is part of a broader collaboration involving the BOI Sri Lanka and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), with the local support of The Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka. Together, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where Sri Lankan ICT companies can not only compete but lead in the global market.

🌏 Looking Ahead - The journey ahead is promising. We are excited to see these companies implement their learnings and achieve new heights. Their success will not only bolster Sri Lanka’s position in the global ICT landscape but also inspire many other companies to pursue international growth.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to drive forward with these transformative initiatives in other countries around the Asia Pacific region!
