Historic China & Pakistan Customs Meeting Lays Foundation For Closer Trade & Border Collaboration

The first ever working meeting between Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) was held early this week in Islamabad.

The two sides had a joint overview of their bilateral cooperation in general, their collaboration under the framework of SCO, implementation of China Pakistan CMAA signed in 2005, interaction between their customs offices at Kunjirab-Sost border crossing, discussed the necessity to have a Green Corridor Project in place to facilitate cross border movement of agricultural goods and establish a working mechanism between FBR and GACC.

The meeting concluded yesterday with consensus reached to strengthen their cooperation in supporting China Pakistan Economic Corridor by launching the Green Corridor Project by the end of 2020, establishing a direct working mechanism between FBR and GACC so as to ensure their effective cooperation at all levels and going ahead with their AEO mutual recognition arrangement discussions as soon as FBR officially launches its AEO system next year.

Both sides agree that the meeting is of historical importance which has laid a good foundation for a closer customs cooperative relationship between the two neighboring countries.
